Pain all around Us

November 7, 2017 by Mirella Caro-Cortes Leave a Comment

In last ten years, the US has undergone several terrible acts of violence that have taken the lives of many innocent people.  The disregard for human life does not discriminate against age, gender, location, or religion.  Days after a horrific mass shooting, communities come together and show acceptance and love for one another.  Slowly, we all drift back to our regular routines and hectic lives.  One thing is clear, coming together with our community to show support and care is not enough when we only do it for a short time.  1 Peter 4:8 tells us, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  Loving and caring for your neighbor can not only be when we are struggling with difficulty.  It will be more pleasing to our Lord if it becomes a constant and purposeful act of love that goes beyond expectations.  As we continue to navigate through these hard times, let’s start loving each other unconditionally the way God loved us.  Accept the mentally ill and those emotionally wounded and offer them an opportunity to find peace in their hearts or help to cope with their struggles.  Be the hope the affected by the senseless acts of violence need and share with those that do not have the love of Christ in their heart.  Together in constant communion and with purposeful love we can conquer sin.

Let us take a minute to honor all the lives taken unexpectedly in the last ten years…

26 killed at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs

58 killed at the Harvest Music Festival

49 killed at the Pulse Night Club

27 Killed at Sandy Hook

32 killed at Virginia Tech

Lord, we ask you to pour your blessings, strength, and understanding to the victims, families, and the community to conquer hatred with hope and love and to help us become stronger together so we can reject sin.  In your name, We Pray.
